Lose Weight, Gain Fun: A Guide to Enjoying Weight Loss

If you're looking to lose some weight, don't worry, you're not alone! Losing weight can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be boring or unenjoyable. Here are some tips for making weight loss a fun and rewarding experience.

What You Can Do To Lose Weight + Gain FUN

1. Find a workout you love

Let's be real, we don't have time for workouts that we don't enjoy. Find an activity that you actually look forward to doing, whether it's dance classes, kickboxing, or hiking with your furry friend. When you're having fun, it won't feel like a chore. Finding a workout you enjoy is key. And let me tell you, when you find an exercise routine you actually enjoy, it can make all the difference.

Think about it: if you're forcing yourself to go to a spin class you hate, you're not going to stick with it. Plus, when you enjoy your workout, it doesn't feel like work. It feels like something you genuinely want to do. And let's be real, we've got enough on our plates without adding a dreaded workout to the mix.

And here's the best part: finding a workout you enjoy can actually improve your mental health. Exercise has been shown to reduce stress, boost mood, and increase energy levels. So when you're doing an activity you love, you're not only getting a physical workout, you're also taking care of your mental wellbeing.

Don't force yourself to do workouts you hate. Experiment with different activities until you find something that sparks joy. Whether it's yoga, hiking, dancing, or something else entirely, make sure it's something that makes you excited to move your body. Your mind, body, and soul will thank you.

2. Meal prep with a twist

Meal prepping can feel like a drag, but it doesn't have to be. Try experimenting with new recipes, adding in more fruits and veggies, and using fun kitchen gadgets like a spiralizer or air fryer. Maybe even make it a girls' night and cook together with your friends.

  • Plan your meals for the week ahead of time.

  • Make a grocery list based on your meal plan and stick to it.

  • Cook in bulk so you have leftovers for the week.

  • Invest in quality storage containers to keep your food fresh.

  • Prep your meals in advance, such as on Sundays or another designated day.

  • Cook proteins, grains, and vegetables separately to mix and match throughout the week.

  • Use a slow cooker or Instant Pot to save time on cooking.

  • Prep snacks and breakfast items like overnight oats or egg muffins for easy grab-and-go options.

  • Label your containers with the name of the dish and date prepared for easy organization.

  • Keep your meal plan and grocery list handy for future reference.

  • Don't be afraid to experiment with new recipes and ingredients to keep things interesting.

  • Enjoy the convenience and benefits of having healthy meals ready to go throughout the week!

3. Set challenges for yourself

Set small, achievable goals for yourself and challenge yourself to reach them. Maybe it's running a 5K, doing a certain number of push-ups, or trying a new yoga class. When you reach your goals, treat yourself to something fun like a new outfit or a day at the spa. This is something I always do... before reaching the goal, I make a list of weight goals along with rewards I'll treat myself with when I reach those milestones.

Why you should set a challenge for yourself?

  1. It helps you stay motivated: When you set a fitness challenge, you're giving yourself a specific goal to work towards. This can help you stay motivated and focused on your fitness journey. Plus, when you achieve that goal, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment that can keep you going.

  2. It encourages you to step outside your comfort zone: Trying new things can be intimidating, but setting a fitness challenge can give you the push you need to try something new. Whether it's signing up for a 5k or trying a new workout class, setting a challenge can help you step outside your comfort zone and try something new.

  3. It helps you track your progress: When you set a fitness challenge, you have a specific goal to work towards. This makes it easier to track your progress and see how far you've come. Plus, tracking your progress can be incredibly motivating and help you stay on track.

  4. It can be fun: Setting a fitness challenge doesn't have to be all work and no play. You can make it fun by setting a challenge with friends, trying a new activity or workout, or rewarding yourself when you achieve your goal.

  5. It can lead to long-term habits: When you set a fitness challenge and achieve it, you're more likely to stick with it long-term. Achieving that goal can give you the confidence and motivation you need to make fitness a regular part of your lifestyle.

So don't be afraid to set a fitness challenge for yourself. Whether it's running a 5k, doing 10 pushups in a row, or trying a new workout class, setting a goal can help you stay motivated, try new things, and achieve your fitness goals.

4. Get an accountability partner & sweat it out with your friends

Exercising with friends can make it more enjoyable and keep you accountable. Find a workout buddy who shares your goals and interests, and schedule regular workouts together. You can motivate each other, share tips and tricks, and have a good time while getting fit.

  1. They can help you stay motivated: When you have an accountability partner, you have someone who is cheering you on and supporting you every step of the way. This can be incredibly motivating and help you stay on track when you're feeling discouraged or unmotivated.

  2. They can hold you accountable: Sometimes it's easy to make excuses and skip a workout or indulge in unhealthy foods. But when you have an accountability partner, they can hold you accountable and help you stay on track. Knowing that someone else is counting on you can make it easier to stick to your goals.

  3. They can provide encouragement and support: Working towards your fitness goals can be challenging, and it's important to have people in your corner who are there to support you. An accountability partner can provide encouragement and support when you need it most.

  4. It can make fitness more fun: Let's be real, working out alone can be boring. But when you have a friend by your side, it can make fitness more fun and enjoyable. You can try new workouts together, share healthy recipes, and celebrate each other's progress.

  5. It can lead to stronger friendships: When you work out with a friend, you're not only working towards your fitness goals, you're also building a stronger friendship. This can be a great way to connect with others and build meaningful relationships.

5. Gamify your weight loss

Who said weight loss can't be fun? Turn it into a game by tracking your progress and rewarding yourself for reaching milestones. I love using my FitBit Charge and being able to see my sleep, steps, and more being tracked.

Losing weight doesn't have to be boring or a punishment

Remember, losing weight doesn't have to be boring or feel like a punishment. When you find workouts you love, meal prep meals you love, set challenges for yourself, work out with friends, and turn your weight-loss journey into a game, you can make weight loss a fun and rewarding experience that will last for years.
